MESSAGE FROM THE MEDICAL FEE GUIDE COMMITTEE CHAIRS:
Sheldon H. Press and Cynthia S. Miraglia:

The Medical Fee Guide Revision Committee will recess monthly meetings effective 4/18/02. There will not be a public meeting on May 7, 2002. The Committee recommended to the Workers' Compensation Commission that a benchmark study comparing current workers' compensation medical fee guide reimbursement to private health insurance reimbursement for the same services be prepared and provided to the Committee. The Commission accepts the Committee's recommendation and will attempt to secure funding for the cost of the benchmark study. In the event funding is available, an RFP will be prepared and the project will be offered for competitive bid. Once a vendor is selected, the study should take approximately three months. Please monitor this site for information concerning the progress of the benchmark study. The Committee will resume monthly meetings after the benchmark study is delivered to the Commission.

Please be advised that the Commission has established a listing of zip codes for claimants residing in areas neighboring Maryland.  Zip codes from areas in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia have been added to the tables in our new automated docket program. Hearings for claimants residing in those areas will now be scheduled at the hearing location closest to their residence. Therefore, it is important that the Commission be notified in a timely manner of any claimant's change of address. The new scheduling process will begin with the June 5, 2002 hearing dockets.
