November 26

Notice of Final Action

On October 23, 2008, the Workers' Compensation Commission adopted amendments to Regulation .06 under COMAR 14.09.05 Vocational Rehabilitation Practitioners.  This action, which was proposed for adoption in 35:18 Md. R. 1659 ' 1660 (August 29, 2008), has been adopted as proposed.   Effective Date: November 17, 2008.

November 24

The percent change in the Medicare Economic Index (MEI) for first quarter 2008 is + 1.7%, as published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Therefore, for medical services and treatment provided on or after January 1 through December 31, 2009 the Commission has posted the new Maryland Specific Conversion Factor (MSCF) and Percentage Multiplier document used to calculate reimbursement for services under our Medical Fee Guide.  We will publish the complete 2009 reimbursement rates on our Medical Fee Guide Information page.

November 21We have produced a 6 1/2 minute instructional  video supporting our online Employee Claim Form.  The video explains the basic process for the online form and provides additional information on online inquiry services that provide claim status and Commission processes information.  The Windows Media Player format video is posted on the Online Employee Claim Form page.

November 10

All Commission web-based services (our web site, Online Services, email, forms, etc.) will be unavailable beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 for approximately one hour.  We apologize for the inconvenience and urge our customers to plan accordingly.

The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) 94th Annual Convention concluded on October 31, 2008 with the unanimous election of the following slate of candidates for the 2008-2009 Executive Committee:

The IAIABC Executive Committee is composed of ten executives from IAIABC member jurisdictions.  The committee is the governing body of the association, and carefully monitors the association's finances and strategic initiatives.  The IAIABC is a not-for-profit association representing most of the government agencies charged with the administration of workers' compensation systems throughout the United States, Canada, and other nations and territories. November 3

Effective immediately, Monday November 3, 2008: the Commission has implemented a new Notification to Insurer / Response (C-40D) form.  The new form is printed on letter-size paper (plain paper) when mailed via the U.S. Postal Service and is also implemented as an online WebForm for WFMS subscribers.
